The project aims to improve shelter conditions to enhance animal welfare, prevent livestock productivity losses, produce healthy and high-quality animal products, facilitate access to water sources on pastures, prevent stress, disease, and productivity loss caused by sunlight in summer and rain in spring and autumn, and reduce overgrazing pressure on pastures through planned grazing.

A significant portion of animal slaughter in the region still takes place in small and primitive slaughterhouses, with meat and meat products often being produced under conditions that are not hygienically or technologically adequate. Small-scale operations lack cooling units, preventing carcass maturation, creating challenges in preserving internal organs, and resulting in the underutilization of by-products. Additionally, carcasses, hides, and internal organs are transported in unsuitable vehicles.

As part of the project, the following equipment has been procured to enhance the educational infrastructure of the Selçuk University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital: 2 intensive care cabins, 2 infusion pumps, 10 oxygen regulators, 1 ultrasound device, and 1 imaging system.

The beneficiary of the project, S.S. Demiryurt Agricultural Development Cooperative, was established in 2005 in Demiryurt Village with 30 members. At that time, the cooperative benefited from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s 30x10 investment program (10 cattle for each of 30 families) and began production in a shared barn.

In areas within our region where livestock activities and mobility are intensive, the project aims to support investment initiatives for the establishment, rehabilitation, and licensing of modern animal markets/exchanges, animal parks and fairs, and slaughterhouse facilities. This is intended to enhance animal health and disease control, as well as to develop the trade of animals, meat, and dairy products.
